             3rd Grade Weekly Wave

RELIGION We will finish up chapter 11 this week after I see how far the students got with the sub last week!  At this point I am not planning on a test over chapter 11, so we will just move to chapter 12 in a day or two.

**Don’t forget that all students should be in Mass uniform.
Girls – plaid jumper/skirt or blue pants with a white shirt/blouse
Boys – blue pants and white shirt

SPELLING -This week our words will have that end in y, so we change the “y to i” to add endings (tries, tried, trying)  Our tests will be Wednesday and Friday!  Please see the link below for the next set of words.

Week 25-27

READING This week our story is called “A Carousel of Dreams.”  We will be working on fact/opinion, vocabulary, and skimming/scanning for information as we read.  Our test will be on Friday.

GRAMMAR /VOCAB. We will be working on possessive pronouns in Grammar.  We may start on our next lesson in our Vocab journals, but we will have to wait and see how the week goes!

From Mrs. Tieken for Writing – This week we will continue practicing adjectives to give our writing a punch.  We will also learn the C in RACE. The c stands for Cite, that means we will learn to use evidence right from the text to prove the answer is correct

MATH The students have started on Chapter 12 this past week (we jumped ahead a little to cover more ground)  Please watch homework journals and emails this week for any assignments.

SCIENCE – In our next chapter we will be learning about the Earth’s Resources.  We will look at minerals and rocks, kinds of soil, fossils and fuel, and the water in our sea, land, and air. We will start this chapter next week. I am not sure when we will be having a test, but I have attached the link to the TEST HINTS below!  Stay tuned!

Science Study Guide 5

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will focus on Science for a week or so.

REGISTRATION FORMS –
Please be sure to turn in your child’s registration forms for the 2020-2021 school year!
If you get them turned in BEFORE Spring Break, you will not have to pay the Registration Fee!
Be sure to get those in as soon as possible!

** HOMEWORK POLICY-
Student work is to be turned in when it is due.  Here is what it looks like if that doesn’t happen…any work not completed or turned in will result in a 0 in the grade book.  Your student will have until the following week to turn in the missing or incomplete work.  If it is not turned in or completed by this point, your student will choose to turn the temporary zero into a permanent zero.  I also do not do extra credit.  I expect the work to be completed on time.  As always, if you have questions, comments, or concerns, please email me and let me know.

Smokebusters –
Smokebusters is a group of Respiratory therapists who work with 3rd-grade students about the risk of tobacco use and all forms of smoking.  If you would like to come to the presentation, you are more than welcome to join us. Please let me know, however, if you are planning on attending.  It will be this Friday from 10-11 in the 3rd-grade classroom.

School Sweatshirts –
Please be aware that the uniform policy says “School sweatshirts are the only ones allowed and must be worn with a collared uniform shirt underneath.”   I usually have my window opened at least a little all year long, so if your child is one to get cold easily, you may want to make sure they have and bring, a school uniform sweatshirt to wear in class.

**WEATHER ALERT**
We are almost to spring, but please be aware of the weather forecasted for the day and make sure your child has dressed appropriately for the weather and recess that day!  We are not quite out of winter weather yet!  So close!! 😉

TARDIES/SPIRIT DAYS –
It is very important for the students to be at school every day and on time and ready to go each day!  An important part of the day is the first 10-15 minutes when the kids come in the room.  They need time to talk, turn in work, use the restroom, etc. before we get our day started!  When the kids come in late, they are missing the time to settle in and get prepared for the day.  Please try to have your child/ren to school before the tardy bell rings at 8 am!
AS STATED IN THE HANDBOOK – If your child is tardy 3 times during the month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform for Spirit Day.  If they have 6 or more tardies in the same month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform nor will they be allowed to participate in Spirit Day. The timing on this goes from SPIRIT DAY of one month to the day before the SPIRIT DAY of the next month.
