Week of February 18 through February 21

Religion– We have finished our study of All things Mass. With Ash Wednesday right around the corner we will begin our study of Lent.

Science-Simple and complex machines help us do work with less force, or effort. This unit explains what work is, as well as the relationship between force and distance. It introduces the seven traditional simple machines and how they function. One or more simple machines may be combined to form complex machines capable of doing many repetitive, difficult, complicated, or dangerous tasks. Understanding how various machines work will help students to choose appropriate machines and use them properly. Science vocabulary test will be on Thursday.

Social Studies–Indiana was always a free state, even though some Hoosiers believed in Slavery.   This week we will wrap up our study of Slavery. We will have a test on Thursday. We will also begin a research project titled Fabulous African Americans that Made a Difference. Instructions on the project are coming home today.   All work on the project will be completed in class.

Math- We will be working on division with one digit as well as division with remainders and how to interpret the remainder.  Please make sure children are completing all assigned work and turning it in on time.”

Language Arts– For our novel study we will read Hoot. Some of the skills we will practice are figurative language, vocabulary and different ways to show we comprehend and can retell the story.  We are in the rubric stage of our “Favorite Subject” writing piece. Today the precious ones learned how to create and share a Google doc.  Once the paragraph is shared I will use the rubric we learned about last week to grade them.  We have some pretty good little writings in our midst.
