3rd Grade Weekly Wave
RELIGION – We are working our way through Chapter 2 this week. We will be talking about the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation. No test this week, but possibly next Tuesday (Sept. 17). I have attached the TEST HINTS page for this chapter in case you want a head start!
We will be visited by Sr. Loretto on Monday. She will talk to the children about the different kinds of missionary work she does in different parts of the world. Be sure to ask your child what they learned from listening to her talk.
**Don’t forget that all students should be in Mass uniform.
Girls – plaid jumper or skirt with a white shirt/blouse
Boys – blue pants and white shirt
SPELLING – Our words this week have Long i words (mild, might, sky, pie) We will have our tests on Wednesday and Friday this week. Please see the link below for the list of words!
READING – This week we will read “The Perfect Pet.” We will work on skills such as vocabulary, problems/solutions, and using a diagram. Our test will be on Friday!
GRAMMAR /VOCAB. – We will continue to work on subjects and predicates in our sentences while moving ahead with how to combine sentences. We are also continuing to work in our Vocabulary journals. We will be adding our 2nd set of words to our list!
MATH – We will continue with Chapter 1, addition and subtraction. We are taking our time and making sure we have a good foundation before moving on to other concepts, including multiplication and division. You can help at home by working on addition and subtraction facts and subtracting with regrouping (borrowing).
SCIENCE – I would like to finish up our chapter 1 in science this week. Our test will probably not be until n Thursday. I have attached the TEST HINTS for this in case you would like to get a head start on things. Keep in mind, as of me writing this, we haven’t finished Lessons 2 or 3, so don’t get too far ahead of us!
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will be starting our first chapter in Social Studies late this week or early next week. In our first chapter, we will be reading about how people make up a community. We will look at how we live, the jobs we have, the different people that make up a community, and how people get along.
A LOOK AHEAD –
Sept. 6 – TRASH BAG SALE (Sept. 6 – 30)
Sept. 10 – PRIDE Meeting
Oct. 4 – End of 1st Quarter
Oct. 4 – SPIRIT DAY
Oct. 9 & 10 – Parent-Teacher Conferences
Oct. 14 – 18 – FALL BREAK – NO SCHOOL
It is also very important for the students to be at school every day and on time and ready to go each day! An important part of the day is the first 10-15 minutes when the kids come in the room. They need time to talk, turn in work, use the restroom, etc. before we get our day started! When the kids come in late, they are missing the time to settle in and get prepared for the day. Please try to have your child/ren to school before the tardy bell rings at 8 am!
School Sweatshirts –
Please be aware that the uniform policy says “School sweatshirts are the only ones allowed and must be worn with a collared uniform shirt underneath.” I usually have my window opened at least a little all year long, so if your child is one to get cold easily, you may want to make sure they have and bring, a school uniform sweatshirt to wear in class.
TARDIES/SPIRIT DAYS –
AS STATED IN THE HANDBOOK – If your child is tardy 3 times during the month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform for Spirit Day. If they have 6 or more tardies in the same month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform nor will they be allowed to participate in Spirit Day. The timing on this goes from SPIRIT DAY of one month to the day before the SPIRIT DAY of the next month.
