Hi, Parents! The Lion Cubs have a had a great first week of school! We are so proud of them! They have done great with learning the rules and procedures! We haven’t had very many tears, either!!!
We are learning our Bible verse, “You are God’s masterpiece”. Ephesians 2:10. This is the theme for our school year. I hope to teach them at least the refrain of the song that I have written just for this purpose. We will learn one Bible memory verse each month. I will be letting you know so that you can also work on that at home.
This week we worked on recognizing their names when they come into the room. They have to find their name tag and put it on the board by the school lunch tray picture or the lunch box picture. During carpet time we count the number of name tags under each picture.
Our color of the week was blue. We colored a “Blue’s Clue’s” picture today. Next week we will be making a craft of a cookie monster which will have a blue face. 🙂
If you have not sent in your “ALL ABOUT ME” page, please do so as soon as you can. The kids are so happy when they see the picture of their family on our wall!
Scholastic Book Order forms are going home today. You do not have to order books, this is optional. However, our class does receive points towards classroom books, so I always like to send home the forms in case you were wanting to purchase books anyway. The date to get orders turned in by is Thursday, Aug. 22. I will order the end of that week.
The school is having two Back to School nights next week. Since we already had a Meet and Greet, Lion Cubs are not participating in the Back to School Night. I have a prior commitment and cannot be here that evening, but I will be happy to meet with you another time if you have any questions or concerns.
Our class is doing so great!!! We will be letting the children get a “prize” from the “prize box” after they have 5 stickers. They can earn one sticker each day. This is for following our class rules, sitting in circle, staying on their mats at rest time, etc. So this is the incentive we have decided to use. Some children might be upset if they don’t get a prize on the 5th day, but we will tell them, that it is OK because the only need to try really hard the next day and then they will get a prize.
Another discipline method that we have is the “tree” in the back of the room. If the child is not listening to our directions or following rules, we will tell them that their name will go in the tree if they don’t correct their behavior. They know this is not good. So then their name goes in the “tree” and they can get it out of the tree if they correct the behavior then. So, once in trouble is not always in trouble. They learn to do the correct behavior this way.
We are really enjoying your children! Thanks so much for sending them to St. Rose of Lima School! Please let us know if you ever have any questions about how your child is doing!
Have a wonderful weekend!
