It’s hard to believe there are only 7 school days left and I’m typing my last newsletter at St. Rose! I have a feeling it’s going to be an emotional 7 days as my daughter is preparing to graduate from high school on Saturday and I am leaving a profession that I love as well as a school that is very dear to my heart. Although I don’t know what God’s plan is for me quite yet, I have faith that he will lead me where I need to be for this next chapter in my life. I am grateful for the 12 wonderful years I had teaching here at St. Rose. We are still part of the parish and my son will be in 8th grade next year so I look forward to continuing to see everyone. Your children are truly a blessing and I’m glad I had the privilege to be their first grade teacher. They have all grown so much spiritually, academically and socially this year. It’s been so much fun seeing the growth they have made from the first day of school to now. WOW! I told the children that even though they’ll be Ms. Coleman’s students next year, I’ll still be checking in on them. 🙂 Thanks again for a wonderful school year! Have a safe and wonderful summer! May God continue to bless you and your families!
Important Dates/Reminders/Thank you’s:
*5/22 Move-up Day (the children will get a chance to go to Ms. Coleman’s room to hear all about 2nd grade). Kindergarten program at 1:00 p.m. We will also have our LAST spelling pre-test (list came home on Friday). FINAL EARLY DISMISSAL; we will NOT have early dismissal NEXT Wednesday.
*5/23 LAST spelling test. 8th grade graduation at 7:00 p.m.
*5/24 Field Day. The children will receive their field day shirts when they arrive at school on Friday. Please be sure to put sunscreen on your child before coming to school on Friday. We will be outside most of the day (praying for good weather) and they will be exhausted when they get home. Due to my daughter’s Baccalaureate Mass & Graduation this weekend, I will be leaving Field Day at noon. Mr. Antle will be taking over for the afternoon.
*5/27 NO SCHOOL/Memorial Day
*5/29 Last day of school schedule: We will have an adjusted lunch schedule for Mrs. Prechtel’s annual “picnic style” lunch to celebrate the last day of school (time to be determined). We will have mass at 1:00 followed by Honor’s Day in the church. All are welcome to join us! If you plan on joining us for mass (we hope you will), please park like you do for dismissal (rows) so things will run safely & smoothly at the end of the day. Although the last day of school is on a Wednesday, this will NOT BE AN EARLY DISMISSAL DAY. Report cards will come home along with final STEEP scores.
*7/8-7/12 Be sure to sign your children up for Vacation Bible School from 9-noon. The children always have a wonderful time & get to see some of their classmates. Contact Julie Haney at [email protected] for more information.
*If your child forgot to return their library book last Thursday, please be sure they bring it to school one day this week.
*Please be sure you and your children send in their “homework for Mrs. Pappas” by Friday.
*Thanks for all of the Mountain Dew donations that you’ve been sending in!
*Thanks to all who helped in any way to make the St. Rose dinner auction a success! We couldn’t do it without our wonderful volunteers!
*Thanks for all of your help this year with our classroom parties & providing us with snacks every day!
*Thanks for all of your kind words, love & support!
*Thanks to Mr. Antle for all he did for me and my first grade class this year! He has been a wonderful addition to First Grade & I know the new teacher will be glad to have him as part of the first grade class again next year. Although he is a wonderful, middle school Religion teacher in the afternoon, he does a great job with the 1st & 2nd graders too!
*Thanks to Ms. Emma Sutton, St. Rose alum & Franklin HS senior, who has been helping us in the afternoons this semester. She has been a great help & will be a wonderful teacher some day. We wish her luck as she attends Ball State University in the fall.
*Thanks to the wonderful teachers & staff at St. Rose! I have been blessed to work with such special people over the past 12 years and my 3 children have been blessed to have been taught & shaped by so many wonderful teachers here at St. Rose School. Thanks for being so good to me & my family! We are truly blessed!
*THANK GOD EVERY DAY! PRAY! Attend weekly mass.
*PLAY, PLAY, PLAY (don’t forget your safety rules).
*Wear sunscreen, helmets and life jackets.
*Visit the library for books & fun activities! Join the summer reading program!
*Read EVERY day & practice those math facts.
*PLAY, PLAY, PLAY some more (board games, card games as well as dice games are GREAT for following directions, listening skills, problem solving, etc.)
*Review address, phone # & DOB. This is something we often forget to review with our children. Be able to tie those shoes for 2nd grade too!
*And most importantly, don’t forget my FAVORITE RECIPE (see below). I can’t STRESS enough how reading (being read to counts) EVERY DAY makes such a DIFFERENCE!
**If you are looking for specific ways to help your child in particular areas, please let me know and I can give you some suggestions for your child on an individual basis**.
