It’s finally starting to look and feel like Spring! YAY! We all enjoyed being able to get outside for recess last week! The children really did a great job when they returned from spring break and were definitely ready to work hard! Let’s keep it up! Not one student had to move their “behavior stick” last week. The children were very excited that they all got to start Fun Friday on time. 🙂 All of the children have grown so much this year. Not only am I proud of them, but I’m pretty sure they are proud of themselves when they see how far they’ve come! As you read in the message Mrs. Floyd sent out on Friday, I will not be returning to teach at St. Rose next year. This was not an easy decision for me because I truly love St. Rose and have been blessed over the past 12 years being part of this special family! I’m so grateful that I have had the privilege of teaching your children this year. They are a great group of children and they have been so much fun to teach! I will continue to keep them in my prayers and I ask that you keep me in your prayers as I begin my new journey. Thanks for all of your continued support! Below is a preview of some of the things we’ll be doing this week : Phonics: This week we will work on reading & spelling final, stable syllable -tion, reading & spelling digraph ue, suffix -es and reading & spelling diphthongs ou & ow. The sight word that will be introduced with this week’s Phonic’s lessons is: four Spelling: This week’s spelling words are: how, round, dishes, blue, argue, diver, enjoy, overpay, afternoon, vacation, early* & learn* (* words are not to, be sounded out) with BONUS WORDS: morning, second, almsgiving. The children will also be given a sentence to write: The soil there was moist and cool. The pre-test will be on Wednesday and the final test on Friday. If the children spell all of the words (including writing the sentence & bonus words IF they accept the challenge) correct on Wednesday, they will NOT have to take the test on Friday. Reading: This week we will be reading “Little Bear Goes To The Moon” (Main Selection). The children will bring their books home on Monday evening for homework. Please read pgs. 198 & 199 before reading the story & discuss the vocabulary words to make sure the children have a clear understanding of these words. They will bring home a leveled reader on Wednesday to read for homework. PLEASE be sure the children return their books the NEXT day so they have them for reading here at school. It’s a good idea to ask the “Think and Compare” questions at the end of each selection. The children are really doing a good job reading their stories each week! We couldn’t do it without your help and support! THANK YOU! Math: This week we will finish up working on telling time to the hour & 1/2 hour. The children are doing a pretty good job telling time. I know many people have digital clocks these days, but if you have an analog clock at home it would be a good idea to practice. First graders are only expected to know how to tell time to the hour and the 1/2 hour. Religion: We will finish up Chapter 16/Jesus Teaches Us to Love Others. We will listen to the Stations of the Cross again this week with the 3rd grade class on Friday at church. We will talk about Palm Sunday which begins Holy Week on 4/14. We will also read short bible stories and begin opening our Resurrection Eggs to learn more about Jesus’ death & Resurrection. Be sure to remind your child to pray for their St. Rose prayer partner & ask them if they’ve been sticking to their promise of being a “Good Deed Doer.” Important Dates/Reminders: *4/8 *Math-a-thon fun books and monetary donations are due.
