Hi Families!

Last week I tested the students over January sight words.  Hopefully you received a paper last week that showed what they knew/missed.  The class did not do as good as I had hoped.  I’m trying a few different things in the classroom, like sight word passwords that the students have to say before entering our room, but I would appreciate it if you continue working on these at home with your child.  I know some families have post its around the house with sight words on it.  This is a good idea!  Let me know if you need any tips.

For our upcoming Valentine’s Day Party, you can send in cards with your child to pass out.  I do ask that your child does not write the names of each student in our class on the cards.  This makes it very difficult to pass out with 23 students.  Please just have your child fill out the “From” part.  This is great name/handwriting practice!

Just a reminder for new families, or those who didn’t know, our classroom has a Facebook page that you can join to see occasional pictures/reminders.  Please see the link below if you would like to join.

Our class could use a few supplies to finish out the rest of the school year.  If you are out and see deals on the following items, your donations would be greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Paper towels
  • Disinfectant wipes
  • Baby wipes
  • Glue sticks

Reading/Theme of the Week: Today we talked about Groundhog’s Day.  The students went outside to see if we saw our own shadows in Franklin.  Look for a picture of that coming on Facebook.  We will finish up talking about penguins this week.  With our writing, I have been telling the students that I want to see them going “above and beyond.”  We talked about the fact that if I ask students to write 2 sentences, but they can write more than that, then I want to see it!  I want to see sentences that start with capital letters, have spaces, and end with punctuation.  Pictures should have details, labeling, at least 3 different colors, etc.  Please talk about going “above and beyond” with your child.

Math: We will revisit 3D Shapes this week and continue with addition this week.  Coming soon: SUBTRACTION!!!
