I have a feeling that many of the children were excited that it finally LOOKED like winter when they woke up Saturday morning! I must admit, I was enjoying the 50 degree weather we were having, but the snow sure did look pretty as it was falling. I hope the children had a chance to get out & play in the snow this weekend. I know my 3 teenagers sure enjoyed an afternoon of sledding! 🙂 If there is inclement weather, please be sure to check your email/text messages for a message from the school on Jupiter. There will also be a message on the school voicemail. Please remember, we follow the Franklin Community Schools for school closings and delays. If the news stations show that Franklin Community Schools are out, then St. Rose School is out too. Thanks to those who sent in snacks last week. We truly appreciate your help! The children look forward to their daily, mid-morning snack to help them get through the day. We didn’t get as much done as we had planned last week with only having a 4-day week & a lot of changes in our schedule due to STEEP, Honor’s Day & Spirit Day. We are hoping to have somewhat of a “normal” week since next week we have another 4-day week followed by Catholic School’s Week. Below is a preview of some of the things we’ll be doing this week:
This week we will work on reading & spelling final, stable syllables -tle, -gle, -cle, -kle, -sle, -zle; reading & spelling vowel y (long /i/ & long /e/ sound) and suffix -y. The sight words that will be introduced with this week’s Phonics lessons are: eye, love, move, many & any.
This week’s spelling words are: my, tell, her, soon, shall, stringy, made, feelings, packed, number, want* & don’t* (* words are not to, be sounded out) with BONUS WORDS: resolution, winter & Catholic. The children will also be given a sentence to write: My little dog likes to nap with me. The pre-test will be on Wednesday and the final test on Friday. If the children spell all of the words (including writing the sentence & bonus words IF they accept the challenge) correct on Wednesday, they will NOT have to take the test on Friday.
This week the children will be reading “June Robot Cleans Up.” The children will need to read pages 34-53 when they bring their books home Monday evening. They will bring home a leveled reader on Wednesday to read for homework. PLEASE be sure the children return their books the NEXT day so they have them for reading here at school. It’s a good idea to ask the “Think and Compare” questions at the end of each selection.
We will continue with Chapter 5: Addition and Subtraction Relationships (related facts/fact families, deciding to use addition or subtraction when problem solving, using addition to check subtraction).
Chapter 12/Families Share Life & Love. We will talk about the Holy Family (Joseph, Mary & Jesus) and what it means to have a Parish family.
** January Birthday & *1/2 Birthdays: Emery, *Kyla & *Lilly.
