SPELLING – We will be back to reading stories from our regular reading book. So, we are back to “regular” words for spelling. This week our words are words with the /u/ sound (loop, look, rude, clue). We will have a test on Thursday and Friday this week due to our short week. See the link below for the list of words for the next few weeks.
READING – Our story this week is called “The Jones Family Express.” We will discuss vocabulary, making inferences, and reading / following directions. Our test will be on Friday.
GRAMMAR /VOCAB. – In Grammar, we will work on Future-Tense words and writing with quotation marks. In our Vocabulary book, we will look at Adverbs that tell how.
MATH – We will finish up the last of our multiplication unit over the next few weeks. We will look at patterns in multiplication, finding an unknown number, using the Distributive Property, multiples of 10, and multiplying 1 digit by multiples of 10 (ex. 4 x 30 =?). I don’t have a test planned until last next week, so I will send the test hints home later this week.
SCIENCE – We will focus on Social Studies for now.
SOCIAL STUDIES – We did not finish our chapter in Social Studies before the break, so we will review a little of what we have already talked about and finish up the chapter. No test, we will do an activity in class.

The Smokebusters Program is a wonderful program that teaches the children about the effects of tobacco use. This is geared towards 3rd-grade students and is a fun and interactive way for the children to learn about tobacco usage. All parents are welcome to attend the hour-long presentation. The program is set to start around 9:45 am on Friday, Jan. 25th in our classroom. Please let me know if you plan on attending the program.
School Sweatshirts / Winter Coats
As we are now in the Winter season, please be aware that the uniform policy says “School sweatshirts are the only ones allowed and must be worn with a collared uniform shirt underneath.”
I usually have my window opened at least a little all year long, so if your child is one to get cold easily, you may want to make sure they have and bring, a school uniform sweatshirt to wear in class.
Also, as we get closer to winter weather, please be sure your child comes to school each day with a coat or heavy jacket. Hats and gloves are also good to have tucked into the pockets! We will go outside unless it is 25 degrees or below! ALL STUDENTS NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR OUTDOOR RECESS!!!
TARDIES/SPIRIT DAYS –
AS STATED IN THE HANDBOOK – If your child is tardy 3 times during the month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform for Spirit Day. If they have 6 or more tardies in the same month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform nor will they be allowed to participate in Spirit Day.
The timing on this goes from SPIRIT DAY of one month to the day before the SPIRIT DAY of the next month.
PE CLOTHES – Students will need to make sure to have sweatpants or leggings to put on after PE class before we go out for dismissal. As we get into colder, snowy weather, I do not want the kids out walking through the parking lot in their PE shorts! Again, please make sure they have their PE Uniform for THURSDAYS and most FRIDAYS!
