Polar Express Day is next Wednesday!  Kindergarten may come out of uniform in pajamas!  A small stuffed animal is allowed too.  Make sure that whatever your child brings in can be carried on his/her own.  Slippers are allowed as long as students have a change of shoes in case we go outside for recess.

Mrs. Claus will be visiting us next week!  She will be reading to us next Tuesday.  The students are very excited.

We will be shopping at Santa Shop next week.  Our day to shop is next Wednesday from 9:30-10:30.  An information sheet should be in your child’s bookbag tonight!

We are in need of helpers at the Santa Shop!  Please contact Beth Adams or the office if you can help!

Our Christmas party is next Thursday!  We will be starting a little earlier than originally planned….around 11:45.  The party will last one hour with dismissal right after that.  If you come for the party, you are allowed to leave with your child after the party at 12:45.

If your children ride the bus, make sure you let us know how they will be getting home on Thursday.  Franklin goes to school all day on the 20th, so busses will not run early for us.  Students must stay at extended care if they are riding the bus home on Thursday.

I will be sending home some work for students on Christmas Break.  There will be a writing journal and fluency pages for practice.  Students who write in their writing journals on 5 different occasions during Christmas Break can bring it back in to me on January 8th for a prize!  Please help your child make sure that sentences have punctuation, proper spacing, and start with a capital letter.  Encourage your child to write at least 3 sentences.  Developing our writing skills is very important in Kindergarten!

Below please find some of the things we have been doing this week, and what we will be working on coming up:

Next week is survival mode 😊 We will be doing a lot with the Polar Express book.  Everyday we have something special to do.

Reading:  We introduced digraphs this week and the students really caught on quickly!  Ask your child what sound ch makes and to tell you a ch word.

Math:  We worked with addition this week.  The students have learned two strategies for solving addition problems—using their fingers to count and drawing pictures to solve the problem.  We will learn more addition strategies soon!
