3rd Grade Weekly Wave
RELIGION – We will be starting the week with our Advent Chapter then moving to Chapter 8 by the end of the week. In Chapter 8 we will talk about how we pray to the Holy Spirit. We will talk about asking and receiving in the story of “The Man who would not Quit.” We will also read the Triangle Story and talk about St. Patrick and how he used the three-leaf clover to explain the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
We will also be completing different Advent Activities throughout the next few weeks as part of our Advent Celebration.
**Don’t forget that all students should be in Mass uniform.
Girls – plaid jumper or skirt with white shirt/blouse –
GIRLS MAY NOW WEAR BLUE PANTS AS PART OF THE MASS UNIFORM!! THIS WILL BE UNTIL AFTER SPRING BREAK!!
Boys – blue pants and white shirt
SPELLING – We will be reading “Little House in the Big Woods” by Laura Ingalls Wilder over the next few weeks. The spelling words for this book is a little more challenging than we have had in the past, so please plan the studying accordingly! The list for the next three weeks can be found in the link below. We will do a few chapters a week until we finish the book. We will be doing the list for chapters 5-8 this week.
READING – We will be reading “Little House in the Big Woods” over the next three weeks. I have the books and will provide them to the students. Most of the reading will be completed in class, however, there may be a few nights where students will need to complete the reading assigned or finish up a worksheet that goes with the chapters. The worksheets cover several concepts such as ABC order, comprehension, vocabulary, sequencing. I will do my best to give them plenty of time in class to get most of it completed. There is a little more to reading this book than we have been doing, but I think the class is up for the challenge! 🙂 We will be reading chapters 5-8 this week.
GRAMMAR /VOCAB. – We will cover Grammar and Vocabulary with our reading of “Little House.”
MATH – We will continue multiplication with Chapter 4 this week. In this chapter, we will work on multiplying by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. We will talk about the Distributive Property and Associative Property. We will also talk about the patterns on a multiplication table. No test scheduled at this point.
Be sure your child is working on their Multiplication Sundae! We have several students who have earned scoops of ice cream and even some chocolate syrup and whipped cream! I would like for everyone to at least earn a bowl and some ice cream! They have until December 13 to turn in slips!
SCIENCE – We will finish up chapter 3 this week with a test on Tuesday. Please see the link to the TEST HINTS below to help you and your child study for the test.
SOCIAL STUDIES – Our next chapter in Social Studies will be about people and their local government. We will look at community leaders, governments, services provided by local governments, and the branches and levels of government. We will also talk about state capitals and borders between the states.

School Sweatshirts / Winter Coats
As we are now in the Winter season, please be aware that the uniform policy says “School sweatshirts are the only ones allowed and must be worn with a collared uniform shirt underneath.”
I usually have my window opened at least a little all year long, so if your child is one to get cold easily, you may want to make sure they have and bring, a school uniform sweatshirt to wear in class.
Also, as we get closer to winter weather, please be sure your child comes to school each day with a coat or heavy jacket. Hats and gloves are also good to have tucked into the pockets! We will go outside unless it is 25 degrees or below! ALL STUDENTS NEED TO BE PREPARED FOR OUTDOOR RECESS!!!
TARDIES/SPIRIT DAYS –
AS STATED IN THE HANDBOOK – If your child is tardy 3 times during the month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform for Spirit Day. If they have 6 or more tardies in the same month, they will not be allowed to dress out of uniform nor will they be allowed to participate in Spirit Day.
The timing on this goes from SPIRIT DAY of one month to the day before the SPIRIT DAY of the next month.
PE CLOTHES – Students will need to make sure to have sweatpants or leggings to put on after PE class before we go out for dismissal. As we get into colder, snowy weather, I do not want the kids out walking through the parking lot in their PE shorts! Again, please make sure they have their PE Uniform for THURSDAYS and most FRIDAYS!
