We will begin assessing the September sight words the week of 9/24. Please continue practicing sight words at home with your child. If you need another list, let me know. Thank you for your help!
Field Trip permission forms went home on Tuesday. If you did not get a permission slip or need another, let me know. Please have them returned to school by 9/24.
Also coming up at the end of October is a vision screening. Kindergarten has a vision screening on Friday, October 26, 2018 at Northwood Elementary from 8:45-9:30. We will go via a bus. This is a free service. A permission slip will be going home for that soon.
You should be getting a time for parent teacher conferences soon! I look forward to speaking to all of you at the conferences!
Below please find some of the things we have been doing this week and what we will be working on coming up:
Reading: Our letter today was Ww. This week we began our Apple/Fall Unit. Ask your child to tell you the different parts of the apple and/or the apple life cycle. We will continue talking about apples and Fall until Fall Break. Things to look forward to coming up are making applesauce and apple taste tests!
This week we read Non-Fiction books about apples. We discussed the difference between Fiction and Non-Fiction books.
I also had the students write one fact about apples for me. I kept this paper as a writing benchmark. I’m looking forward to looking back on this writing at the end of the school year and seeing tremendous growth in their writing skills!
Math: This week we practiced counting by ones and tens to 100. We worked in our Go Math books on perfecting our numbers 1-5. During stations, students played Math games with Mrs. Linton.
Religion: We talked about the Golden Rule this week. I also read students the story of Joseph and his brothers. We learned that we should ask Jesus to help us forgive others as Joseph did.
