Week of August 20-25
There are no graded papers today. We have been working on mastering our classroom procedures. I do have some papers to grade and record. When they are ready I will send them. I will have the children record this as part of their homework in their journals. You will know to look for them in the green folder.
Because we are reading for homework tonight we won’t read for 30 minutes. However I would am requiring the reading log be filled in with the story we are reading and it will still need to be signed. Thanks for working with is on this.
Religion– This week we are continuing our study of types of prayer and adding forms of prayer too. We will be taking lots of notes and share scripture. If your student studies their handwritten notes every evening they should have no worries come test time. Ask your child about the prayers in the plate.
Science-We have started taking notes about vertebrates. The students need to study vocabulary and highlighted notes from the booklets every evening. This will help them solve worksheets and pop quizzes.
Social Studies– Social Studies: The students will be using the Indiana Studies Weekly for their main resource to learn about Indiana History. This week we will learn about Indiana Mammals and whether or not Indiana had dinosaurs. We will also learn about the Northwest region of our home state. The students need to study vocabulary and highlighted notes from the newspaper every evening. This will help them solve worksheets and pop quizzes.
Math: We will do review activities on Monday over what we have covered so far and I will assess if we are ready to move on. If so, we will review multi-digit addition and subtraction before moving on to multiplication.
Language Arts– Understanding what they read is extremely important. So, we are currently working with two stories one fiction (Rumpelstiltskin) and one non-fiction (Dandruff). We will learn a skill that checks comprehension called a Story Pyramid, and practices that skill. We have also been reviewing and practicing nouns and verbs. Look for Rumplestiltskin to come visit you
