We have another very busy week ahead in Kindergarten! Don’t forget that we have two early dismissal days this week (Thursday and Friday). Parent/Teacher conferences begin on Wednesday. Please do your best to arrive on time so we can stay on schedule. Each conference lasts for 15 minutes.
This week we will have visitors from Franklin College Men’s basketball team come and read to our class. Every year they participate in the NABC Reading Program, a nation-wide literacy effort sponsored by the National Association of Basketball Coaches. The program is designed to utilize college basketball players as role models to emphasize the importance of education in general and reading in particular for elementary school children in the early primary grades. I know Kindergarten will be excited to meet them!
Here’s what we have coming up this week…
10/25 Report Cards go home. Parent/Teacher Conferences begin at 3:00. Student Council NUT day for a “toiletry donation” for Hurricane Relief (small items needed: travel size toothpaste, deodorant, soap & shampoo). If the students bring a donation they can come dressed as their favorite book or movie character.
10/26 Living Rosary in church at 12:30. Early Dismissal @ 1:00 for Parent/Teacher Conferences.
10/27 Honor’s Day in the PLC at 12:15. Early Dismissal @ 1:00 for Parent/Teacher Conferences. Last day to hand in Boo-Gram order forms and money. All money collected will go toward the 8th grade class trip to Washington DC.
10/28 PRIDE’s Halloween Hootenanny/Family Fun Dance & Costume Party in the PLC from 7-9 p.m.
10/31 Halloween Party @ 1:30. Students can bring their costumes (no make up please) to change into before the party if they’d like. If you are planning to attend, you can come to our classroom at 1:20 to help us get ready. The following parents signed up at Back To School Night to help for our party: Craft/Mrs. Setnor, Game/Mrs. Hudson, Snack/Mrs. Lynch, Drink Pouches or Boxes/Mrs. Kirk, Napkins/Mrs. Adams. If you signed up to help, but cannot attend the party you can send in your donations that morning. Thanks for your help!
We are running low on a few classroom supplies. If you are out and about and see any of these things, our class would really appreciate it! Thank you!
- Hand sanitizer
- Baby wipes
- Clorox wipes
Here is what we are working on this week:
Reading/Phonics: Our theme is BATS/SPIDERS. We will be reading both fiction and non-fiction books to learn about these creepy creatures. Our letter of the week is Oo. Our popcorn word is have. The color of the week is BLACK.
Please work with your child at home to ensure that they have mastered the following words:
Jesus, God, blue, can, I, red, the, we, yellow, like, green, a, to, and, see, play, purple, orange, go, is, pink, brown, black, have
Math: Represent, count, and write numbers 6-9. We will finish this and take a test over it this week. Count to 100 by ones and tens. Write numbers correctly from 0-20. A great way to practice counting with your child is to count together while you are driving. If your child can already count by 1’s and 10’s to 100, you can make it more difficult by practicing counting by 5’s and 2’s. 😊
Writing: Draw real life pictures with 3-star coloring (colors make sense, no white spaces, staying in the lines) and using labels. We are working on stretching out our words to sound them out.
