        3rd Grade  Weekly Wave

RELIGION  We will be starting on Chapter 5 this week.  We will be talking about Jesus teaches us to forgive and to heal.  We will talk about the Bible story of how Jesus cures the sick man and we will read about St. Francis of Assisi.  We will also talk about how we should act with compassion and mercy towards others. 

**Don’t forget students should wear Mass Uniform on mass days!   Mass Uniforms are the plaid skirt or jumper
(NO PANTS) with a white shirt for the girls.  The boys’ uniforms are blue pants and white shirt.   

ONLY MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS are allowed to wear pants for Mass all year!  The lower grade will be allowed during the winter months.

 SPELLING –   This week our words have /wr/ /kn/ and /gn/ (wrap, knit, and gnat)  We will have our test on Wednesday and Friday this week.  Be sure to check out the new list of words in the link below.  The next three weeks are on this list!s

Week 10-12

READING  Our new story to start off the next 9 weeks will be “Author: A True Story.” We will be working on vocabulary, author’s purpose and point of view, and context clues.  Our test will be on Friday!

GRAMMAR /VOCAB.In Grammar this week we will work on combining subjects and predicates in our sentences.  We have a review in our Vocabulary books.  We will also be working on writing some scary-silly Halloween stories!   

MATH We will be starting on Multiplication this week!  This is a big deal for 3rd graders!  Information will be coming home that will give all the details about our “Multiplication Sundaes” activity!    

SCIENCE –  We will focus on Social Studies for a few weeks!

SOCIAL STUDIES –   Our next chapter will be chapter 2.  We will talk about “Communities Are Places.”  We will look at where on Earth we are located, how communities can be different sizes, and how every community has a story! We will also talk about timelines and how to read a map

Here is who signed up to help at the Halloween Party!  Our Party will be on Tuesday, Oct. 31.  As you can see, we need a few volunteers for Games and/or Crafts!  Any takers…let me know!

As stated at Back to School Nights, we will follow Franklin Community School closings and delays. We will make sure to send an email, text (if you have it set up in Jupiter) and our phone message will relay the news. Franklin Schools will post on regular TV stations (ABC, NBC, CBS).

Also, this is a reminder to please check the Handbook for clarification on dress code. Please make sure your child/ren are wearing a belt for grades 4 -8, girls are wearing the correct plaid (solid color skirts, skorts, and jumpers are not allowed), Mass uniforms must be worn on Thursdays (see handbook for exact specifications), socks should be visible and the correct color (blue, khaki, white or black). All regulations are listed in the handbook which can be found on our website. If you have any questions, let us know.

**SCHOOL/HOMEWORK – We are starting a new 9-week grading period! This is a great time to look things over with your child and make sure they are doing their best work, which includes turning in ALL assignments and putting in their best effort!  Please let me know if you have any questions!

**PE NOTE – We will be changing clothes for PE on Thursday and Friday each week.  Please be sure students have shorts and a shirt along with the appropriate shoes for PE.
