3rd Grade Weekly Wave
RELIGION – We will start Chapter 4 this week. In this chapter, we will be talking about how Jesus teaches us to pray. We will talk about Jesus teaches us to call God, we will talk about the Lord’s Prayer, we will learn about St. Therese’s Little Ways of praying, and we will look at some of the different kinds of prayers we can pray.
**Don’t forget students should wear Mass Uniform on mass days! Mass Uniforms are the plaid skirt or jumper
(NO PANTS) with a white shirt for the girls. The boys’ uniforms are blue pants and white shirt.
ONLY MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS are allowed to wear pants for Mass all year! The lower grade will be allowed during the winter months.
SPELLING – This week our words have /th/, /wh/, /sh/ sounds (thick, whales, shock) Our tests will be Wednesday and Friday. Be sure to check out the new list of words for the next few weeks! Click on the link below!
READING – Our story this week is “What’s in Store for the Future?” We will look at vocabulary, fact vs. opinion, parts of a book, and comprehension.
GRAMMAR /VOCAB. – In Grammar, we will look at irregular plural nouns and in our Vocab. books we will look at words that tell us “more or less” words with a degree of difference, such as nap vs. slumber.
MATH – We will work on finishing up Chapter two this week and have a test on Tuesday or Wednesday. I would like to spend a few days reviewing what we have done so far this year. We may start on Chapter 3 next week, but we will really get into Multiplication when we return from Fall Break!
SCIENCE – We are working our way through Chapter 2 this week. We will be talking about the needs of animals, how animals grow, parts of animals, and different kinds of animals.
**Animal Report information went home on Friday! These reports are due on Wednesday, Oct. 11! If you have questions, need help finding any information, or need help purchasing the poster board, please be sure to ask!
SOCIAL STUDIES – We will focus on Science for now.

Deputy Baird, from the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, will be here to talk to all of the classes. He will discuss Alcohol and Drug Awareness with the 3rd-grade class. You are more than welcome to join us if you would like to hear what he has to say. We will have our presentation at 8:25 am in the PLC.
ZOO FIELD TRIP- IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!
Don’t forget to sign and return the Permission Slip for the Zoo Field Trip! If you are planning on going, you MUST HAVE the Safe and Sacred Program completed or updated. If you have questions, please contact the school office. All Permission Slips and Safe & Sacred updates must be completed by Wednesday, Oct. 4.

Here is who signed up to help at the Halloween Party! Our Party will be on Tuesday, Oct. 31. As you can see, we need a few volunteers for Games and/or Crafts! Any takers…let me know!

SNOW DAYS/DELAYS AND DRESS CODE (from Mrs. Floyd)
As stated at Back to School Nights, we will follow Franklin Community School closings and delays. We will make sure to send an email, text (if you have it set up in Jupiter) and our phone message will relay the news. Franklin Schools will post on regular TV stations (ABC, NBC, CBS).
Also, this is a reminder to please check the Handbook for clarification on dress code. Please make sure your child/ren are wearing a belt for grades 4 -8, girls are wearing the correct plaid (solid color skirts, skorts, and jumpers are not allowed), Mass uniforms must be worn on Thursdays (see handbook for exact specifications), socks should be visible and the correct color (blue, khaki, white or black). All regulations are listed in the handbook which can be found on our website. If you have any questions, let us know.
**SCHOOL/HOMEWORK – Please make sure your child is doing his/her school work AND turning it in on time! I have a few students who have not been completing work that is sent home to complete! It will make a big difference in their grades on their report cards! Please let me know if you have any questions!

**PE NOTE – We will be changing clothes for PE on Thursday and Friday each week. Please be sure students have shorts and a shirt along with the appropriate shoes for PE.
