Religion-

Each student will be using a journal title “Attitude of Gratitude” this year.  This week we will decorate our own, and also write our first entries.

Did you know that St. Rose is celebrating 150 years?  Yes, that’s right! Our parish as been a vibrant part of the Franklin/Johnson Co community.  Please join us this weekend as we kick-off our celebration.

Math-

We are learning the various properties of addition and multiplication.  This will help us solve problems in our heads without using paper and pencil.  We will also perform operations with multi-digit whole numbers.   Understanding the place-value system is imperative.

Please, please, please have your child review fast facts each evening!  Flashcards or xtramath.org are two of the easiest ways!!

Social Studies–

We began Chapter 1 Our Country’s Geography Lesson 2: Bodies of Water

Students have been studying fresh/salt water bodies of water.  Students should know examples of each that are found in/near the US.  Be certain to go over the study guide and keep it for test time!

Things to “quiz” your child over:  continental divide, fall line, river systems, Great Lakes, oceans

Reading-

Our story this week is a non fiction piece:  TFK- Forests of the World   TEST on Friday!

There are 5 vocab. words:  quest, buffet, settings, reduce, major

Grammar: compound sentences using and, but, or

Spelling: none for this week

Reading Log:  Due Friday, September 1

Science- From the desk of Mrs. Tieken:

We are still working on food chains. Students should already have a good grasp on the vocabulary as we have been working with it in-depth for the past two weeks. The vocabulary test will be tomorrow Tuesday August 29th as planned. If your student studies vocabulary, highlighted materials, and their handwritten notes every evening they should have no worries come test time.

Questions, comments, or concerns please email me at [email protected]  or I invite you to call me at home, your child has my number in their planner.

Peace and blessings
