A SPECIAL thanks to Mrs. Adams for subbing for me on Friday!  I’m sure the children enjoyed spending the day with her just as much as she enjoyed being with them!  I was in the car line as “mom” on Friday afternoon when one of my students walked by my van and said hi when he saw me.  I asked him if they were good for Mrs. Adams and he said, “Yes, just chatty, that’s all!”  🙂  Mrs. Adams agreed!   I had a WONDERFUL weekend with my family celebrating my parents 50th wedding anniversary.  We are truly BLESSED!  I will not be at school Monday afternoon.  Mrs. Salazar will be subbing.  The children will NOT bring home their folders or “punch cards.”  I will return on Tuesday morning.   Below is a preview of some of the things we’ll be doing this week.

This week we will continue working on initial letter sounds for the letters Z & S as well as working on Suffix -s and blends pl, sl, sn, sp, spl and st.  Don’t forget to review the high frequency words on the back side of the phonics pages when you see them.

Our story this week is, “I Can! Can You?”  The children will bring home their reading books on Monday for homework.  They are expected to read (can be read to if needed) the “Get Ready Story” (Yes, I Can!) and the “Main Selection” (I Can!  Can You?).  They will bring home a leveled reader on Wednesday to read for homework.  PLEASE be sure they return their books the NEXT day so they have them for reading here at school.  If your child is having difficulty reading, please read to them and have them follow along.  Then if you read a 2nd time, they can “echo” you if need be (they will know what I mean by this 🙂 ).  It’s a good idea to ask the “Think and Compare” questions at the end of each selection.

We will continue with Chapter 1 (Addition Concepts) in our new Go Math series.  Here are a few terms they will be learning more about in Chapter 1:  addends, sum & addition sentence.

We will finish our chapter on God’s Creation and begin Chapter 3/God Is Our Father.  We will talk about how God cares for us and how we can care for others.
