Week of August 21-25
There are no graded papers today. I am still trying to get acquainted with the new format on Jupiter. They have been scored I need to record them and then I will send them. I will have the children record them in their journals when I send them so you know to look for them.
In other news beginning Monday August 28 we will add another nightly homework assignment. Everyone will need to practice math facts. To do this your child will need flashcards. They may be purchased at Dollar Tree for $1 per pack, that is a subtraction pack and an addition pack. If you can’t get to the Dollar Tree before Monday you could send me $2 and I will be happy to go for you. If you are sending in the money please do so before Friday and I will go over the weekend.
Last bit of news, our daughter is expecting a baby any day. I will take a couple of days when they baby comes. Just want you to know there could be a sub in our room. We are praying for a weekend birth, but God is in control of that, so beware there could be a sub.
Religion– This week we are continuing our study of types of prayer and adding forms of prayer too. We will be taking lots of notes and share scripture. If your student studies vocabulary, and their handwritten notes every evening they should have no worries come test time. Ask your child about the prayers in the plate.
Science-We have started taking notes about vertebrates. The students need to study vocabulary and highlighted notes from the booklets every evening. This will help them solve worksheets and pop quizzes.
Social Studies– Social Studies: The students will be using the Indiana Studies Weekly for their main resource to learn about Indiana History. This week we will learn about Indiana Mammals and whether or not Indiana had dinosaurs. We will also learn about the Northwest region of our home state. The students need to study vocabulary and highlighted notes from the newspaper every evening. This will help them solve worksheets and pop quizzes.
Math: Place Value- we will discuss the concept that in a place-value chart. each place represents a value ten times the value of the place to its right. Please review a place-value chart with your student. Each group of three places is called a family or period. We will focus on the ones, thousands, and millions places.
Language Arts– Understanding what they read is extremely important. So, we are currently working with two stories one fiction (Rumpelstiltskin) and one non-fiction (Dandruff). We will learn a skill that checks comprehension called a Story Pyramid, and practices that skill. We have also been reviewing and practicing nouns and verbs. Look for Rumplestiltskin to come visit.
