Religion-

Each student will be using a journal title “Attitude of Gratitude” this year.  This week we will decorate our own, and also write our first entries.

Did you know that St. Rose is celebrating 150 years?  Yes, that’s right! Our parish as been a vibrant part of the Franklin/Johnson Co community.  Please join us this weekend as we kick-off our celebration.

Math-

Each child has their own set of triangular flash cards.  Please remind your student to study/memorize their fast facts.  We will delve into our textbook later this week.  Our lessons will be centered around number sense and place value.  We played a “scoot” game last week. Ask your child to share with you the rounding rule and/or show you an example!

Social Studies–

We began Chapter 1 Our Country’s Geography Lesson 1: Land and Regions. Each child has a study guide to be using and this will be helpful to have handy come test time.  I’ll keep you posted on a potential test date.  It won’t be for a few weeks.

Reading-

Our story this week is Miss Alaineus (a play/pun on the word miscellaneous).  We will be discussing various story elements and focusing mostly on character and setting differences and developments.  Students have 8 story vocabulary words to study this week, and these can be found in their reading journal.

Grammar: types of sentences –can your child recall the 4 types? We played a “scoot” game last week as an introduction! (declarative, imperative, interrogative, and exclamatory)

Next week we will ease into Vocabulary for Achievement.

Spelling: none for this week

Reading Log:  Due Friday, September 1

Science- From the desk of Mrs. Tieken:

.Just like last year we will be using an online program called Science A-Z as the main resource tool during science. This program is a fun and interactive way for students to see the most updated material in the science world. Students will get their own booklets where they can highlight, make notes, and/ or color each unit. our first unit will be about foood chains. Every living thing is part of an ecosystem. Food chains, food webs, and energy pyramids can be helpful tools for understanding how the living things in an ecosystem depend on each other for the energy they need to perform daily activities.

Questions, comments, or concerns please email me at [email protected]  or I invite you to call me at home, your child has my number in their planner.

Peace and blessings
