Happy ISTEP’ing week!  The first round of our testing will start tomorrow. We will test one section of Mathematics on Tuesday, two sections of Language Arts on Wednesday, followed by one section of Social Studies on Thursday.  All testing this week will be paper-pencil.  Later on in April, students will finish the ISTEP testing on their Chromebooks!    Please make sure that your child goes to bed at a normal time, eats a healthy breakfast, and is promptly at school by 8:00am.   These small actions can make a BIG difference in student performance.  Also, I’ve permitted gum chewing and peppermint candies during the testing process, as some research indicates it stimulates the brain! 🙂  Can’t hurt, right?!

Chapter 11: The Communion of Saints

Students will learn that all followers of Jesus in Heaven, in Purgatory, and on earth belong to the Communion of Saints.  At every Mass, all the members of the Communion of Saints unite together to give praise and thanks to God.  We will talk about how how choices, both good and bad, affect us.  We will invoke the Holy Spirit for help in making good choices!

Perhaps you’d like to do some extra credit at home?  Ask about Family Time in our textbook!

Taking a little break from our book…. BUT don’t worry, we are cramming in little bits of math all over the place!  Just ask your child!!   Today we talked about triangles:  we classified triangles based on their length of sides, and measure of angles!  Can your child tell you:

Sides:  equilateral, isosceles, scalene

Angle: acute, obtuse, right

Oh yeah, we are learning how to find the area of triangles, too!  Just ask your child for an example!

Social Studies–

Chapter 9: The Revolutionary War

This is an exciting time in our history!  Students will learn the causes of the American Revolution, identify important people during the period, and understand the importance of individual participation in democracy!

And I almost forgot….we’ve taken over Flag Duty, too!  Each morning the students (in pairs) will raise our United States flag, and each afternoon will fold it properly for the night.  How patriotic!
