We are working on Chapter 10 Eucharist.  Can your child name the two parts of mass? (Liturgy of the Word/Liturgy of the Eucharist)

The Eucharist is the greatest of the Seven Sacraments.  At every Mass, Jesus’ sacrifice on the Cross to save all people from sin is made present.  Students should understand that is why we treat this sacrament with the greatest love and reverence.

We will also learn about Blessed Margaret Pole, martyred under the rule of Henry VIII.

See if your child can recall some other names for the Eucharist (Holy Communion, Holy Sacrifice, Last Supper, Thanksgiving…)

Perhaps you’d like to do some extra credit at home?  Ask about Family Time in our textbook!


Chapter 10 Add/Subt. Fractions

The chapter 10 test is Wednesday. Students knew about this last week!

We are “cramming” extra math in to every day.  Today we learned more about mean, median, mode, and range.  Students have a color by number paper to complete.  We had lots of class time to complete this!  Shouldn’t be much let for homework.

Check assignment notebooks for daily work!

Social Studies– 

Chapter 8 Uniting the Colonies


Lesson 3 Colonists Speak Out (Your child should understand that tensions were rising between colonists and British Parliament.  Can s/he name a reason why?)

Citizenship Skill:  Determine Point of View   (We talked about bias and being impartial when sharing firsthand information.)

Reading- Fiction


Back to the reading book!  Our story this week is Sleds on Boston Common.  It fits perfectly with out Social Studies unit, too.  Students will work on drawing conclusions using text clues.  Plus vocabulary words! TEST on Friday!

We are also back to the dreaded “Vocabulary for Achievement” workbook- Lesson 9: Words from Spanish! QUIZ on Friday!

Daily Language Review for ISTEP preparation

Spelling:  list of 20 Each students has both a hard and electronic copy of the list; TEST on Friday!

**Implemented Reading Logs- 20 minutes daily/day.**  Students should be taking Accelerated Reading Quizzes to track growth!

Science- From the desk of Mrs. Tieken:

We have finished the Changing Landforms chapter.  We will have our assessment on Thursday February 16th.  Pages to study are 13 through 21.  There will be a worksheet to help study before then and we will have a review game on Wednesday.
