Religion-

As Christmas draws near, students will keep/reflect on a personal Advent journal.  Be sure to ask your child periodically about this.  We joyfully wait for the coming of Christ!

We will begin studying for our ACRE test which is given by the Archdiocese to assess students’ knowledge of the Catholic faith.  The test isn’t until late January, so we have plenty of time to prepare.  Each child will be given a study guide to use to prepare.

Math-

We are jumping forward to Chapter 9 in preparation for learning how to add/subtract fractions.  This chapter, however, will focus on number theory and fraction concepts.

Lesson 6- Equivalent Fractions and Simplest Form

Lesson 7 Use Logical Reasoning

Lesson 8 Relate Fractions, Mixed  Numbers and Decimals

TEST before break; watch student planners for more info.

Please continue to brush up on multiplication and division fast facts.  Check in with your child on Rocket Math.  How far is your child?  Let’s make it a goal to have multiplication sets completed by Christmas Break!  Several may be able to finish division, too!!

Social Studies–

Chapter 4 European Settlements

Lesson 4: Jamestown Settlement

Lesson 5: Plymouth Colony

TEST before break

Reading- Fiction

We are starting a new novel called The Best Christmas Pageant Ever!

This will wrap up in about two weeks time.

Ask about our Christmas Around the World projects we are doing in class!  It will be fun to share these with each other.

We are on Chapter 5 starting today!

Spelling:  list of 10

**Implemented Reading Logs- 20 minutes daily/day.**  Students should be taking Accelerated Reading Quizzes to track growth!

Science- From the desk of Mrs. Tieken:

We are about to learn what is “the boss” in our body. We will also learn how our body can be at war with itself and about the rivers that provide nutrients throughout our bodies. Planning on wrapping up the chapter with an assessment on Wednesday December 14th.
The plan is to do STEM on Monday and Tuesday of the last week before Christmas.

Questions, comments, or concerns please email me at [email protected]  or I invite you to call me at home, your child has my number in their planner.
