Dolphin                     3rd Grade Weekly WaveSandDollar

RELIGION  We will be starting Chapter 5 in Religion this week.  We will be talking about how Jesus shows us how to heal and forgive.  We will read a story about how Jesus cures a sick man and we will read about St. Francis of Assisi.  

We will be celebrating Veterans Day with a special Prayer Service on Friday!  There is NO MASS on THURSDAY!  Please join us on Friday if you can! 

**Don’t forget students should wear Mass Uniform on mass days!  This is blue pants and white shirts for the boys.  Plaid skirt or jumper with a white shirt for the girls!  (Girls will be able to wear pants for Mass Uniform starting in November.)

 SPELLING Our words this week will have “ar” sounds as in “stairs and bare”. Our tests will be Wednesday and Friday.  You can find the list of words at the link below.


READING  We will be reading “One Riddle, One Answer” this week.  We will work on vocabulary, plot and settings of a story, unfamiliar words, and consonance (repeated vowel sounds) and metaphors ( comparing things). 

GRAMMAR We will work on action verbs and using commas in Grammar. In our Vocabulary book we will also be working on Action Verbs.

MATH   We have moved on to Multiplication!  We will continue to review addition and subtraction, but we must move forward!  In Multiplication we will work on multiplying by 4, 5, 10, 0, and 1. We will also work on some problem solving skills.  

Did you see the MULTIPLICATION SUNDAE information?  Please be sure to read it over, sign the bottom of the front page, and return JUST that slip!  Then as your child is ready for me to give them the facts orally with flashcards, turn in the slips on the second page, starting from the bottom and working your way up.  They may only turn in two slips at a time.

SCIENCE – We will focus on Social Studies over the next few weeks.

SOCIAL STUDIES   We are working our way through chapter 2 this week.  I am hoping for a test on Thursday or Friday.  Keep watching for details!

**We will NOT have Mass on Thursday, but will instead have a prayer service on Friday to celebrate Veterans’ Day. The 3rd graders will be in charge of the prayer service.  Please make sure if they have a speaking part, that they have practiced at home.

**We will serve the traditional Thanksgiving feast on Monday November 21. If you would like to help serve this lunch please send me an email– [email protected] The time commitment would be 10:00 until the dishes are done.

**STUDENT COUNCIL -The Council is sponsoring a collection of clothing items to benefit the children in the Johnson County CASA program. The donation period will be from November 14 through December 2. Items requested are hats, mittens, and scarves for children, and for babies they need the following: bottles, pacifiers, and rattles. Please see the attached flyer November 22nd, SRS Student Council is sponsoring a NUT day to benefit Make a Wish.
