Thanks for stopping by to read my blog for this week.  If you have a second to let me know you’ve read it, I would appreciate it.  Just want to get a feel for my “reach” on cyberspace!  A quick email or note will suffice!  😉

Chapter 2: Sacraments

We will learn about the 7 Sacraments of the Church, and how through receiving these we also receive sanctifying grace.  Each family has the option of doing the Family Time activities at the beginning of the chapter for extra credit.  Also,  we have been working carefully on having Attitudes of Gratitude.  Have your child show/tell you about their journal.  Our goal is to have more thankful hearts.

Chapter 2 Add/Subtract Whole Numbers

Lesson 1: Algebra: Expressions and Addition Properties

Lesson 2: Estimate Sum and Differences

Social Studies–

Chapter 2 Earliest Americans

Lesson 1:   Explain how geographic factors influenced the migration of people from Asia to North America.  Ask your child about the Land Bridge Theory, Early Arrival and Origin Stories.

Lesson 2: Ancient Indians- Describe types of settlement and patterns of land use by the ancient Indians. Describe the early North American civilizations

Reading- A Taste of Blackberries  (a novel)

Genre:  Fictional story; this novel is very short, and will only take about 2 weeks to complete.  We will  move quickly through it, and your child may be asked to read chapters at home.  Each student has a “new” folder to keep papers pertaining to ATB in their binder.

Skill: Prefix and Suffix

Vocabulary for Achievement: none

Spelling:  Pretest of ten words was taken today, final test on Friday.  See spelling card or list for missed words

Science- From the desk of Mrs. Tieken:

We are still studying adaptations this week.  The vocabulary quiz that was to be last Thursday will be tomorrow, Tuesday September 20th.  As I said last week I am reevaluating how to assess the students, as one test over all the material seems to overwhelm.  Instead of one big test I will be giving quizzes along the way.   Our next quiz over material read will be Thursday the 22nd.  I will give the students the information to be quizzed tomorrow. This week we will use paper for stem.  All materials will be supplied.

Questions, comments, or concerns please email me at mti[email protected]  or I invite you to call me at home, your child has my number in their planner.

Peace and blessings
