Many thanks to everyone who volunteered and participated in our annual Fall Festival! The final numbers aren’t in just yet, but it’s safe to say it was a success!
On Thursday, 5th grade will be “hosting” mass for our school. I will be sending home parts for readers to practice. Be sure to ask your child by tomorrow if s/he has a part to prepare for. All are welcome to join us, too.
Don’t forget that our trash bag sale is going on now! Each family is asked to sell 6 rolls. We appreciate your willingness and generosity. It’s PRIDE’s biggest and best fundraiser of the year.
DATES TO KNOW:
9/16 PRIDE Family Night in the PLC
9/30 Picture Retakes
*Check the Google Calendar on the front page of our school’s website!
Chapter 2: Sacraments
We will learn about the 7 Sacraments of the Church, and how through receiving these we also receive sanctifying grace. Each family has the option of doing the Family Time activities at the beginning of the chapter for extra credit. Also, we have been working carefully on having Attitudes of Gratitude. Have your child show/tell you about their journal. Our goal is to have more thankful hearts.
Continue with Chapter One
1.7 Compare, Order and Round Decimals
Please ask your child about our rounding rule poem. We are working to identify place values, and round accordingly. Can your child do an example for you??
TEST Chapter 1 Wednesday
Chapter 1: Lesson 5 Where People Live and Work
This completes chapter 1 for us. Each child (after tomorrow) will have 5 lessons of study guides to use as a test tool, in addition to our notes in our journals.
Our test will be on Thursday.
Reading- Pipiolo and the Roof Top Dogs
Genre: Fictional story
Skill: Cause and Effect
Grammar: Correcting run-on sentences with compound and complex sentences
8 vocabulary words
Vocabulary for Achievement: Lesson 4 Honesty, Openness, and Fairness

Science- From the desk of Mrs. Tieken:
We will begin adaptations this week. There will be a vocabulary quiz on Friday. The food chain test is coming home today. I am reevaluating how to assess the students, as one test over all the material seems to overwhelm. Instead of one big test I will be giving quizzes along the way. As you read earlier the first quiz will be Friday over the vocabulary introduced today. Our next quiz will be Thursday the 22nd. I will give the students the information to be quizzed next Monday. If you are looking at the Food chains test and are wondering why I took off for not following direction, it is because the children need to learn how IMPORTANT it is to follow directions. If they don’t follow them on ISTEP the whole section of the test will be invalidated and they will fail that section. This week we will use apples and toothpicks for stem. All materials will be supplied.
As a reminder we could use old and ready to throw away CDs or DVDs. If you have any please send them our way. Questions, comments, or concerns please email me at [email protected] or I invite you to call me at home, your child has my number in their planner.
Peace and blessing
