Week of September 6-9

Religion- This week we are continuing our study of types of prayer and adding forms of prayer too.   We will be taking lots of notes and share scripture.  If your student studies vocabulary, and their handwritten notes every evening they should have no worries come test time.

Science- We have begun our study of vertebrates and invertebrates.  Students should already have a good grasp on the vocabulary as we have been working with it in-depth for the past two weeks.  The chapter test will be Thursday September 15th unless otherwise communicated.  If your student studies vocabulary, highlighted materials, and their handwritten notes every evening they should have no worries come test time.Remember a little studying everyday goes a long way. Also want to share that our first STEM activity was successful. Although not all of our scientists had a successful lab, they all learned valuable lessons in the meantime. There will be no STEM this week. Next week we will use apples and toothpicks for stem. All materials will be supplied. Occasionally the students will need to provide materials.  When this happens there will be a two-week notice.  Currently we could use old and ready to throw away cds or dvds. If you have any please send them our way. Questions, comments, or concerns please email me at [email protected]  or I invite you to call me at home, my number is in your child’s planner.

Social Studies-Please look for the Indian Studies Weekly. We completed the crossword puzzle using our highlighted notes.   This is the first grade in Social Studies. Please help you student study the highlighted areas so they will be ready for class discussions. Our first test will be Thursday September 8th. Study a little every night so there will not be a lot to study the night before the test.

Math- In Chapter 2, we will compare, order, and round whole numbers and money. Students will be able to understand the place-value structure of the base-ten numbers system and be able to represent and compare whole numbers and decimals.

Reading- This week we will talk about character traits, using the main characters from our novel Frindle. We will also learn plot structure to help use comprehension skills.

English- The students will learn that a sentence is a group of words that expresses a complete thought, and that a sentence fragment is a group of words that does not express a complete thought. They will review capitalization, punctuation, statements, commands,

questions, and exclamations, and will learn the differences between homophones their, there, and they’re.
