8th grade is racing to cover as much Church history as possible in the last remaining weeks before summer! Short week for the 8th graders this week, but we plan to cover as much of the 14th and 15th centuries as we can. We will spend a little more time discussing the plague, and will also cover the Great Western Schism. Ask your students to describe the period of history when the pope lived in Avignon, France, instead of Rome, and that led to a confusing period when 3 different men claimed to be pope! They should also be able to explain the role of Saint Catherine of Siena in putting things right.
We probably will not finish the chapter this week, but toward the end of the chapter we will be learning about Martin Luther, King Henry VII, and the beginning of the Protestant churches.
