Globe

Today is Earth Day, however, this week we talked about how EARTH DAY IS EVERY DAY!   We read a lot of different books this week about our beautiful earth and how we can help keep it clean and safe for all of us. One of my favorite books to read is The Lorax by Dr. Seuss. Although we read this book during Dr. Seuss week, we read it again in honor of Earth Day. This book sends such a powerful message in terms that even the children can understand, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” We talked about the 3 R’s: Reduce, Recycle and Reuse. The children “pledged” to do their best to help keep our earth healthy and beautiful.   We made a display titled “We’ve got the whole world in our hands.”  The children have great ideas of how they can do their part to take care of this wonderful world God gave us.   We also “reused” our daily milk cartons to plant Marigold seeds in honor of Earth Day. We will continue to make sure our seeds get water and sunlight over the next week or so. Once we start to see our flowers begin to germinate, we will send them home for the children to transfer to a pot or the ground. The children really enjoyed planting their seeds.   However, some liked the “dirt” more than others, of course. 🙂

SIGNS OF LIFE

The children were very “EGG”CITED to see signs of life in 15 (out of 24) of our eggs when we candled them on Tuesday.   Mrs. Salazar & I were “egg”cited too. I’m sure the children shared this information with you when they got home, but they were THRILLED when they saw the blood vessels in several of the eggs and even an eye very clearly in two of the eggs. I wish you could have seen their faces, especially when they saw one move! I told them that is how all of “you” felt when you saw their ultrasound for the 1st time; they thought that was pretty cool!! 🙂 We will candle the eggs again next week and look forward to seeing more growth and movement. We are looking forward to their “expected due date” on May 2nd or 3rd.  We’ll keep you posted!

KINDERGARTEN POEMS

Your child will be bringing home a poem that I would like for them to memorize for our upcoming Kindergarten program on Wednesday, May 18th. Please see the attached note and poem in your child’s Friday folder. I shared the poems with the children and they are excited. If you have any questions, please let me know. Please feel free to encourage “expression” where you see fit! 🙂   Due to having a small class, a few of the students will be asked to memorize 2 poems.
