Happy belated Valentine’s and President’s Days!

Religion-

Students will continue to learn about the holy season of Lent.  Each child has their own purple Lenten book to keep track of daily.

We will also spend time going over the Circle of Grace lessons mandated by the Archdiocese.  Students will recognize that trusted adults help us stay safe in our Circle of Grace and help us respect other in their Circle of Grace.  We will identify different types of media and how they influence our Circle of Grace in positive and negative ways. You may be asking, “what is Circle of Grace?”  It’s the love and goodness of God which always surrounds us and others.

Good news! Results are in from our ACRE Test for the Archdiocese and St. Rose 5th graders rocked it!  Mrs. Floyd and I will share the results along with the 3rd quarter report cards!

Math-

Chapter 10: FRACTIONS (Add and Subtract)

We are doing lots of work to get ready for the ISTEP tests that are coming our way at the end of this month!

Social Studies–

Chapter 9: The Revolutionary War

The most exciting part of our curriculum is right now!  We will learn about the Declaration of Independence and how the nation came to be!  We are taking notes daily and watching Liberty’s Kids videos to really drive home the point.  Check assignment notebooks daily, too!

Reading- Maniac Magee (novel- realistic fiction)

Chaptesr 22-32 Part II

Skills: ask about EXPAND- our newly introduced writing strategy to expand our sentences to include more detail and descriptions.  Each letter stands for a description.  For example, the “P” is for adding proper nouns! See if your child can recall all 6!

Skill:  figurative language

Vocabulary sheets and Literature Response Journals (each child made a new one!)

Students will be responsible for vocabulary and spelling lists.

Spelling: We are back to a list of 20 words. All students have a list!  Pre-tests are given on Mondays. Final test will be on Friday.

Ask what a spelling card is!

Science-  check assignment notebooks (didn’t have this information at time of publishing!)

Extras:
