RELIGION  We will continue with Chapter 10 this week.  We are talking about the different parts and traditions of the Mass.  I am planning on a test on Wednesday, but will have to see how things go on Monday and Tuesday.  

We will have TWO masses this week.  On Wednesday, we will celebrate the beginning of Lent with our ASH WEDNESDAY MASS.  We will then have our regular all school Mass on Thursday!  Mass Uniforms for both days please!

**Don’t forget students should wear Mass Uniform on mass days!  This is blue pants and white shirts for the boys.  Plaid skirt or jumper with a white shirt for the girls!G Now that we are in the “winter” months, the girls may wear blue pants and white shirt.  This will be in effect until March.

 SPELLING Our words this week will be words that are plural (years, twins).  Tests will be Wednesday and Friday!

Week 19-21

READING – We will be reading “My Very Own Room.”  We will work on vocabulary, making predictions, and using an encyclopedia. 

GRAMMAR – In Grammar we will work on contractions.  In Vocabulary we will be working on words from Social Studies and Literature.

MATH We have started our chapter on fractions.  This week we will talk about fractions and groups, multi-step problems, equivalent fractions, and mixed numbers.  We are still continuing to review telling time and counting money. PLEASE keep working on those concepts at home as well.  And it never hurts to review addition, subtraction (with regrouping), multiplying, and dividing!  

SCIENCE – I am hoping to finish up Chapter 4 this week. I am planning on a test on Wednesday or Thursday.  We will work on a Study Guide in class that they will have to help them study.  Please be watching for up to date info in the daily emails.   

SOCIAL STUDIESWe will start on our next chapter this week.  We will be talking about A Communities Geography. We will look at how we describe a place, what people add to a place, and people and their environment.  We will also look at directions and intermediate directions.   

TEACHER NOTES –  

**Tuesday is a NUT Day for Student Council.  Your child may come out of uniform and dress like a “twin” of someone else. Could be a friend, famous person, book character, etc., for a donation of any toiletry item such as travel size bottles of shampoos, lotions, soaps, toothbrush/toothpaste, small snack size bags of snacks, or any other non-perishable items that would be good for the KIC-IT program here in Franklin.  KIC-IT is an organization that helps the homeless youth in Franklin and Johnson County. Items are due tomorrow

**Our Valentine’s Day Party will be this Friday, Feb. 12.  The students will be able to bring in Valentine’s to hand out to their classmates starting Tuesday. There are 16 students in our class. Our Party will start around 1:30.  I have the following people helping out with the party…

** School Cancellations and Delays – St. Rose follows Franklin Community School for cancellations and delays. When delays or cancellations occur, they will be announced on local stations (CBS, ABC and NBC) under ‘Franklin Community Schools’. St. Rose will, also, send out an email through Jupiter. On the morning of, you may call the school office at 738-3451 to verify any delays or cancellations.
