Happy Catholic Schools Week!  It’s most certainly my favorite time of the year! I love celebrating our faith with the entire school in such fun and meaningful ways.  Please know I am grateful that your family has chosen St. Rose School as the foundation for your child’s faith formation.  It is something I treasure in my heart!  Catholic education, for many, includes many personal and family sacrifices, but I believe wholeheartedly that it is making all the difference in your child’s life! THANKS A MILLION and many blessings to you!

We held our Annual Fund Dinner last week and through the generosity of so many, our school was able to raise nearly $30,000 for St. Rose School and Church! If you weren’t able to join us last Thursday, but still feel called to make a pledge, please see Mrs. Floyd or Mrs. Morales. No donation is too small!  We have many exciting plans for our future; you can help make those dreams come true!

Information about the CSW activities went out in an email and it can also be found on our school website and Facebook page.  Don’t forget about our canned food drive, too!

The class totally rocked the ACRE test for our school!  Although I don’t have the results immediately, I am confident our kiddos were ready!  I hope your child felt just as proud.  I’ll be in touch once I know the results.

Chapter 8 Data/Information

We are learning fancy ways of aggregating data! Say what?!  That is a fancy way of saying we are learning to find the mean, mode, median, and range using data.  Not only that, but we are also creating tables and graphs to accompany our work.  Aren’t you impressed?

Social Studies–

Chapter 8: Uniting the Colonies

Lesson 4: The Road to War

We are learning about so many important historical events that lead up to the most exciting part of 5th grade history!  The American Revolution is on the horizon, and we just can’t wait to learn all about it.  Ask about the engaging and fact-filled cartoon called Liberty Kids.  We will watch several episodes unfold just like it reads in our textbook!

We are getting close to the end of the chapter.  Watch assignment notebooks for test details!

Reading- Maniac Magee (novel- realistic fiction)

Skills:  Summarize the plot using characters and setting details; compare/contrast characters’ actions

Grammar- Pronoun and Antecedents

Vocabulary sheets and Literature Response Journals (each child made a new one!)

Students will be responsible for vocabulary and spelling lists.

Spelling: We are back to a list of 20 words. All students have a list!  Pre-tests are given on Mondays. Final test will be on Friday.

Ask what a spelling card is!

Science-  Animal Diversity

Spirit Day is Friday! Won’t you join us?
