HIP, HIP, HOORAY, KINDERGARTEN IS CELEBRATING THE 100th day!

The children are really looking forward to our 100th day of school on Friday, January 22nd.  I can’t wait to see their 100th day creations.  I hear many of the students have been working hard on this homework!  The Kindergarten class can come out of uniform next Friday (1/22) if they are wearing a 100th day creation (necklace, shirt, hat, etc.). We will be doing an activity with our 8th grade buddies as well as many other activities, including our 100th day snack.  Thanks to those who have signed up to send in items for this special snack!  We are still in need of a few items.  If you are able to contribute, please let me know ASAP.  I will need all snack items by next Thursday.  Just a reminder, if your child is able to count to 100 by the 100th day of school (not mandatory by next Friday; just a challenge), they will receive a special certificate and treat! I’ve had several students tell me they are up for the challenge instead of waiting until I assess goal sheets next month.  WOW!  I may start checking this on Thursday depending on how many students are up for the challenge since we will be very busy on Friday.

JANUARY/FEBRUARY GOALS:

  1.  I can recite the Our Father:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
    hallowed be thy name.
    Thy Kingdom come,
    thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
    And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against
us. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
    2.  I can count to 100 by 1’s and 10’s
    (Challenge: by 2’s and/OR 5’s).
    3. I can name the 12 months of the year
in order (Challenge: I can READ the
12 months of the year in random
    order.).
    4. I know the sound for EVERY letter of
the alphabet; including long and short vowel sounds               (Although we do a “letter of the week,” we review all of
the letter sounds on a regular basis.).

**I will begin assessing January/February goals the 2nd week of February.  Please be sure you are practicing with your child!  If you would like for your child to do the challenges, please be sure to note this in their Friday folder if you haven’t already done so.  Thank you!**

BRYSON

Bryson was our STAR student this week!  He was born on February 28, 2010.  He was very excited about finally getting his turn to be our “star!”  It was evident he couldn’t wait to tell us all about his door because he was grinning from ear to ear! 🙂 Bryson LOVES his family very much!  He likes going on vacation with his family to the beach, but he told us it takes a “very long time” to get there. 🙂  He likes reading books with his mommy, especially Minecraft books.  Bryson likes to ride with his daddy on his motorcycle, but he can’t ride on it alone until he’s “big like daddy.”  Bryson has a 3 year old brother, Kody “Bear.”  He said they love to wrestle, but Kody always wins.  Bryson and Kody also like being silly together.  Bryson enjoys going to his Mimi’s lake and riding on her boat.  He said he even has his own tackle box for fishing.  Bryson enjoys going swimming with his cousins.  He has a dog named, Roxy.  Bryson enjoys spending time with his best friend, Lilli.  They enjoy going to the candy shop together and buying BIG lollipops!  By the looks of the lollipops, it must have taken them days to eat them. 🙂  Bryson also likes sharing strawberry shortcake with Lilli.  Bryson enjoys playing Pokemon.  His favorite food is pizza.  His favorite color is green which doesn’t surprise us since he is a big fan of the Army.  He picked out some camouflage ribbon and his dad added the finishing touches to his door.  He  also put a picture that he colored at school of an Army veteran on his door and told us his mom is a Veteran.  Bryson LOVES army tanks and likes going to the “tank museum” with his family.  Thanks for sharing, Bryson!

*The students are doing a GREAT job with the surprise bucket!  WOW!  I’m impressed with the sentences they’ve been writing (and reading).  They are doing a great job coming up with clues!

*Students need to wear tennis shoes every Monday and Tuesday for PE.  If students wear snow boots to school due to the weather, please be sure they bring a change of shoes for when they arrive to school.

*Library books are due every Wednesday.

*Students should be practicing their “popcorn words” a few times a week as well as reading the “mini sight word readers” they bring home.  I have encouraged the children to keep all of these books for practice.  Many of the students are reading these without hesitation now.  Keep up the good work!

*Now that winter is here, there is always a possibility of school closings or delays.  Please note that St. Rose follows Franklin Community School for cancellations and delays. When delays or cancellations occur, they will be announced on local stations (CBS, ABC and NBC) under ‘Franklin Community Schools’. St. Rose will, also, send out an email through Jupiter. On the morning of, you may call the school office at 738-3451 to verify any delays or cancellations.

*Please be sure you are checking out the St. Rose website frequently to keep up to date on all that is going on at St. Rose School.

THANK YOU! THANK YOU!

*Thanks in advance for your help with our 100th day snack!

*Thanks for all you do!

ASK ME ABOUT…

…the sound for “R” and some words that begin with “R.”

…the “vowel bat” song and our new “vowel bat capes.”

…the parts of a story (character, setting, problem and solution).

…ask me about my “flip book” (see Friday folder).

The Mitten & see if “I” can retell the story to you using my “props” like we did with the 1st graders.

…how The Hat and The Mitten are alike and different.

…how we add and subtract on our morning message every day.

…how many more school days until we reach the 100th day of school.

…some ways penguins “team up” and help each other.

…what I learned about Martin Luther King Jr. and how I can help keep his “dream” alive.

Have a wonderful weekend! 🙂
