Happy New Year! I hope everyone’s year is off to a GREAT start! I’m still having a hard time believing it’s 2016 already. That means my oldest will be getting her driver’s license this year. SIGH! Where has the time gone? The children had a successful 1st semester! Thanks for all of your help and support at home! It makes a BIG difference in their education. I couldn’t do my job without all of you! Before you know it the children will be getting ready for first grade, but I’m not quite ready to let them go yet. There is a lot more work to be done, but we are well on our way! Please be sure to sign your child’s report card and return it on Monday. Keep up the good work!
- I can recite the Our Father:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against
us. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil. Amen.
2. I can count to 100 by 1’s and 10’s
(Challenge: by 2’s and/OR 5’s).
3. I can name the 12 months of the year
in order (Challenge: I can READ the
12 months of the year in random
4. I know the sound for EVERY letter of
the alphabet; including long and short vowel sounds (Although we do a “letter of the week,” we review all of
the letter sounds on a regular basis.).
**If you would like for your child to do the challenges for the January/February goal sheet, please note this in the comment section of the Friday folder before returning it on Monday.**
This week we started the surprise bucket (this takes place of show and tell) and the children are very EXCITED! I put something in it every day this week so that I could model for the children what they are expected to do. The directions are on the bucket, however, the children seemed to have a pretty good understanding of what to do after practicing for a few days. Today is the 1st day it will come home with a student. The surprise bucket goes home with ONE child every day so it may take a while for your child to get his/her turn. When it is your child’s turn, please be sure they return it the NEXT day. I did let my Extended Care students know that if they accidentally forget it in EC when they leave at the end of the day, they can still do it at home and put it in the bucket when they get to school in the morning. This activity not only helps the children work on their speaking and listening skills, but it gives them a chance to work on writing “SIMPLE” sentences using popcorn words and words they can practice spelling using “sound spelling.” It also gives them a chance to practice their handwriting. You are allowed to write the clues (your child must dictate to you what to write) for your child, but please make sure you are going over this together so they are able to read their clues to the class. If you would like to write the clues and then have your child copy what you wrote this is fine too. After a while, your child will want to write their clues ON THEIR OWN (they may even want to right away). The more they practice writing their clues, the better they will become at writing words and/or sentences.
