Dolphin                             3rd Grade Weekly WaveSandDollar

RELIGION    We will spend some time this week talking about the Church season of Advent. We will also start on Chapter 8 this week. We will be talking about how we pray to the Holy Spirit.  We will read about the Holy Trinity and the story of St. Patrick.  We will also prepare for a visit from St. Nicholas.

**Don’t forget students should wear Mass Uniform on mass days!  This is blue pants and white shirts for the boys.  Plaid skirt or jumper with a white shirt for the girls!G Now that we are in the “winter” months, the girls may wear blue pants and white shirt.  This will be in effect until March.

 SPELLING We will be back to our regular set of words for the next three weeks.  This week our words will be words with the /ar/ sound (stairs, mare).  We will have tests on Wednesday and Friday.  Please see the link below for the next three weeks worth of words.

Week 13-15

READING – Our story this week is “One Riddle, One Answer.”  We will look at vocab., plot and setting, consonance and metaphor, and unfamiliar words.  We will have a test on Friday. 

GRAMMAR – We will work on present-tense verbs and proofreading in Grammar.  In our Vocabulary books we will work on Lesson 7 – Action verbs.  

MATH We will review and look at our Multiplication facts on Monday.  We will then start on Division.  We are going to be combining lessons from Ch. 10 and Ch. 11.  We will look at the meaning of division, division as repeated subtraction, and how multiplication and division are related.  We will then look at dividing by different factors.

Even though we are technically finishing up multiplication, but we are still working on earning parts for the Multiplication Sundaes!   We will have our real sundae party on Thursday, Dec. 17!  We watching for information about the party to come home after Thanksgiving Break!

SCIENCE – We will focus on Social Studies over the next few weeks!

SOCIAL STUDIES – We will be combining Chapters 3 & 4 over the next couple of weeks. We will look at how local communities have governments, what services are provided by community governments, the branches and levels of our government and we will work on reading a map with state capitals and borders. We will also talk about our national government, how citizens have rights and responsibilities, and models of American Citizenship.  

TEACHER NOTES –  

**We will be doing a preview of the BOOK FAIR next Monday (Dec. 7) we will then have the chance to purchase books on Tuesday (Dec. 8).  Be watching for information and probably a “wish list” to come home next Monday!

**We will also be gearing up for the Christmas Program!  Next week will have a few practices/rehearsals. Don’t forget our CHRISTMAS PROGRAM is THURSDAY, DEC. 10! Watch for program time and what time the kids should be at school to come soon. Details are still being worked out!  Most likely the program will start around 7pm and the students will need to be there around 6:30/6:45. BUT…sure to watch for final details!

**Watch for information to be coming home about the Santa Shop that will be on December 15 and 16.  This will be an opportunity for the children to purchase Christmas gifts for family and friends.  They will be able to shop, wrap, and surprise you with the special things they picked out (without you knowing) for Christmas! 

**Just so you know, I will be out of the classroom on the morning of Friday, Dec. 4.  I should be back by lunchtime.

** School Cancellations and Delays – St. Rose follows Franklin Community School for cancellations and delays. When delays or cancellations occur, they will be announced on local stations (CBS, ABC and NBC) under ‘Franklin Community Schools’. St. Rose will, also, send out an email through Jupiter. On the morning of, you may call the school office at 738-3451 to verify any delays or cancellations.
