Do you realize the Fall Festival is only days away?! Two days of family fun!!  Make sure to stop by on Friday evening and all day Saturday to enjoy Euchre, food/drinks, games, raffles, and much more!  Our festival committee is working tirelessly to make the weekend enjoyable for all.  I hope you’ll find some time to check it out!  Be sure to read about the Fall Festival on the school website and Facebooks pages. Volunteers are still need, too.  🙂

Spread the word!  Bring a friend! Hope to see you there!

Just a gentle reminder- please make sure your child’s accounts for lunch and extended care are current.  It makes billing easier for all involved.

Please remember to buy/sell trash bags for our PRIDE fundraiser!  These are quality bags!  Each family should have received a sample bag along with a family order form.  Check out PRIDE’s Facebook page for more information or feel free to drop me a line.

Religion

Chapter 2: The Seven Sacraments

Faith Focus: In the Seven Sacraments, we celebrate the Paschal Mystery of Jesus Christ.  In Baptism we pledge ourselves to deliver the Gospel of Jesus to the world.  The Good News we proclaim is that God the Father loves us and has shown us his love through the Incarnation and by raising his Son from death to new life.  Through the Seven Sacraments, God makes a pledge to us.  He pledges to give us his unconditional and unending love.  This love comes to us through the Paschal Mystery- the life, Death, Resurrection, and Ascension of Jesus Christ.

Please ask your child to tell you about Sanctifying Grace (God’s free gift of his life.  It frees us from sin and helps us live holy lives).

Remember: Family Time can be done for extra credit. Simply send a note from home!

Math-

Chapter 2 Add/Subtract Whole Numbers

Estimate Sums/Differences, Add & Subtract Whole Numbers (must have understanding of Place Value!), and more work with Problem-Solving: Relevant Information

Social Studies–

Chapter 2 The Earliest Americans

Understand how people adapt to and modify their environment, explain how geographic factors influenced the migration of people from Asia to North America.  Your child should be able to tell you 3 possible theories of how early Americas came to be.

We will begin talking about various cultures in relation to their geographic location.  First up, the Desert Southwest!

Reading- A Taste of Blackberries (a novel)

We will begin reading our class novel.   Although it is a short chapter book, we will focus on several reading skills along the way.  First being compare and contrast of characters and settings.  Your child will learn how to use a graphic organizer (Venn diagram).  We will explore the similarities and differences between the narrator and his friend, Jamie.  Your child will be responsible for keeping a separate reading folder (one I’ve given them) for this entire book!  Check daily for updates!

Spelling-  Chapters 1 and 2

There are only 10 words this week!  Be sure to learn each one! These will also double as vocabulary words.

Pre-tests are given on Mondays. Final test will be on Friday.

25 words on the list (each child has a list in their binder)

Ask what a spelling card is!

Science-  We will be wrapping up our characteristics of living things chapter.  This week we will explore the organisms that belong to different kingdoms and use classification keys to accomplish that.  Our first test will be Tuesday September 15.   (per Mrs. Tieken)
