It’s weird to think August ends today!  We are marching right along in our school year.  The students are falling right into place with my expectations and we are having a good start to our academic year.

Please be sure to read Mrs. Floyd’s Weekly Roar to stay current on all the school events.  Check the website daily, if possible!

We will review the chapter today and on Tuesday; a test on Wednesday!  Ask about the online review located in my portaportal website!  You can do this at home with your child, too!

Read to learn how people modify our land and its resources to meet their needs. We are learning about renewable and nonrenewable resources.  Ask your child about their poster!

Lesson 5: Where People Live and Work

Read to learn about where people settle and how regions can be based on people’s activities.

Reading-  Ultimate Field Trip: Blast Off!

Our story will help us generate questions in order to summarize information.  Our vocabulary words will be used in context to help us better understand the meanings. We will talk about how good readers always try to generate questions as they read.  Looking for clues in the text will help us summarize important information and improve our comprehension.

Genre: nonfiction with text features (captions, photos, charts)

Skill: generating questions; more work with sentence combining

Vocabulary: mission, disaster, environment, zone, gravity, maze, adjusted, function

Spelling-  Words with  /ar/ and /or/ sounds

Pre-tests are given on Mondays. Final test will be on Friday.

25 words on the list (each child has a list in their binder)

Ask what a spelling card is!

Science- Classifying living things. All living things are made up of cells,  the basic unit of life, and classified into kingdoms.
