It was so WONDERFUL seeing all of the children walking down to our classroom on the first day of school! They were smiling, full of excitement and ready to get started! It doesn’t get much better than that! 🙂 We had a great 3 days in 1st grade! I’m sure Ms. Centeno was PROUD when she saw her former Kindergarten students walk by her room. The children were excited to learn that they gained a new classmate this year. Norah has been a nice addition to our class. This week we will continue getting used to our new routines and procedures, but the children are off to a really good start. This week in your child’s folder, you will notice “punch cards” for making “super star” choices. These are to stay in their folders until we are ready for a new card. I’m sure they can explain it to you, but if not, no worries. Our “punch cards” are just one of the many things I will be going over at Back to School Night this Thursday. I’m looking forward to seeing you all then! Below is a preview of some of the things we’ll be doing this week:
This week we will begin Saxon Phonics (initial letter sounds “n, short & long o”). More information to come at Back To School Night.
We will begin our Reading Series next week. The children were excited to find out that they will begin taking their reading books home next week for “homework” (stay tuned for more information at BTSN)!
We will begin our Math books next week! This week we’re reviewing and sharpening up on some skills to make sure we didn’t leave the skills we learned last year on summer break! 🙂
Chapter 1: Jesus Is Our Friend. Be sure to ask your 1st grade student on Tuesday to show you what we made to help explain what we learned about the Assumption.
**August Birthdays: Lukas & Cash. If you would like to be a guest reader for your FAVORITE 1ST GRADER’s BIRTHDAY, please let me know so we can arrange a date/time for you to come in and read to our class. If your schedule does not allow, please send in a book of their choice on their birthday (or close to if a weekend date) and I will read it to the class. Happy Birthday to our August 1st graders!**
