Zoo week was a big hit!!!  We played with little plastic zoo animals and built a zoo on our train table.  The neat thing is that there is a part of the table that is blue, like a little pond, so we put the alligators and hippos in that area, then set up our little barn in the other area for cows, chickens and horses.  In the middle we had divided areas for elephants, monkeys, giraffes and others!

We also made some neat zoo crafts that we sent home–thanks to Mrs. Richards for all of those great crafty ideas! You may have also seen our zoo counting book.   It was so exciting to work with the children on counting the animals and actually writing some of their numbers!!! This is something that many of them still need to work on, but when they get it, it’s so great!

They may be singing the Raffi song, “We’re going’ to the zoo” and driving you crazy with that.  If you want to look it up, it’s on YouTube!

Next week we will be talking about animals in the sea.  Since there’s such a great song to go with that I’d like to call it “Under the Sea” week!  If you have any seashells or sand dollars or anything like that to share, feel free to send them in.

Next Wednesday is “move up day”.  We just do this in the morning.  Each class will visit the class they will be in next year.  Our class will go visit Mrs. Mace and Mrs. Eberhart in the Pre-K classroom.  It’s just a short visit (30 min. or so) and then they will return to class.  Mrs. Richards or I will go with them so they don’t feel shy or unsure.  You may want to mention this to them, but we will try to prepare them for it as well.  They all know Mrs. Mace from recess and other times outside of the room, so it should be no problem.

Next Friday is field day.  We do not participate in the field day team activities.  We may do some activities as a class, but only when the other students are not out there.  It gets a little too overwhelming for the Lion Cubs.  So, basically, for our class, it is a day of fun and games in our room. We usually watch a movie in the afternoon in our room as well.

We will also have class on Tuesday, Wed. and Thursday the last week of May.  Dismissal is at 1 p.m. on May 31 and that is our last day.  I have been doing assessments and will be sending home a little report card the last week of school.  I just want you to know what kinds of things you can be working on over the summer with  your child.  Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions at all.

We are running a little low on snacks to finish the year.  If your child would like to provide a snack, please send it in next week.  Thanks so much!!
